My journal is for me and my friends.

"And yet at this moment, a moment that will define a generation, it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all. For as much as government can do, and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child that finally decides our fate." - Barack Obama

The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character;
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beingsā€¦
As the shadow follows the body,
As we think, so we become.

"I have seen war. I have seen war on land and sea. I have seen blood running from the wounded. I have seen the dead in the mud. I have seen cities destroyed. I have seen children starving. I have seen the agony of mothers and wives. I hate war." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

Following on from the last line of this post, have you read The Traveler or its sequel, The Dark River by John Twelve Hawks?

Neither book is mind-blowingly good, but the aspects dealing with the amount of privacy the average citizen is willing to give up without a fight is truly terrifying.

I'm trying to strike a balance between apathy and paranoia, and failing. But for the sake of all our lives, and our children's lives, we all need to.
